I went to Lake Wissota and the Eau Claire River this weekend for some fishing and it was some really good fishing!! No monsters were caught but the fish were plentiful and varied.
I went to the lower Wisconsin at Prairie Du Sac across from the giant Eagle building to fish again. The water was really high from what is usually is, but that's just spring time water levels. Caught several drum and some sturgeons as well as some unwanted biters.
Went for a day at Merrimac Memorial Park on Lake Wisconsin. The minnows weren't quite shoreside yet so I was unsure if the fish were going to be there. However, the drum were hitting, as were the sturgeon, and the Catfish.
Spent hours fishing the Maunesha River Spawning pool in Marshall. Only caught a carp during daylight but the Gatofish really starting hitting it after dark. One after another and it ended up being a great session.
I decided to avoid the crowds on opening day and fish Sheehan Park at Sun Prairie. I heard the park had Pike, Bass, Carp, and some other fish. I did get a carp and three small bass. However, I lost a big fish towards the end that may have been a big Pike or a foul hooked carp.
It is finally time to fish Lake Mendota as the water temperatures get near 50 degrees. I spent 2 days at picnic point and governor's island to hunt for smallmouth bass and Catfish. The smallmouth had not come in yet but the big Catfish were hitting. Some true monsters were caught.
