Went to Governor's Island in Lake Mendota this past weekend for 2 days. The water was still cold this weekend but getting near fifty and about enough to get the catfish going. I used dead shiners and sucks as bait and caught one big pike and 2 big catfish.
The waters are warming up and the fish are noticing. I went to Duck Creek to fish for big ones first but that place was sort of barren so I ended up going to Park Lake in Pardeville and fished off the boat dock. Night started slow but sped up around 9:00 PM.
I set out to fish Crystal Lake to see if the Catfish had grown since the last time I've fished there and they are getting HUGE! Went from 4-5 lb fish to double digit fish in three years so the growth rate is fast!!
I went to Prairie Du Sac to fish for spring walleyes on the river. I can't say the early walleyes were biting very well but the catfish have began to get active as the sturgeon seems to be active downstream from the dam as well.
I went to Pardeeville to fish for catfish and walleye at the spillway and the waters with stacked with fish. There were not afraid of the cold and I got one bite after another fishing around dusk.
I went to the Bark River at Fort Atkinson yesterday night hoping to catch a flathead in the spring. It seems the water was still too cold for flatheads to come out at this time but the channels were out in force, especially after dark.
I went to the Dam at Lowell to fish the raging water there. The water was a lot higher than last time and there were lots of people below the dam so I decided to fish above the dam for the most part. Fish weren't extremely active but I did manage to get a few.
I went to downtown Beaver dam to fish the River there and it was full of big carp and Buffalo. People were trying to snag left and right but I did manage to catch a few in the mouth.
I went this weekend to pull some flies for Spring Walleye on the Rock River in Jefferson. The flies were Bucktail flies of high quality. I still suck at pulling flies but I did get one walleye in the end.
