I went to fish the Sugar River at Belleville today and go quite a few. The carp were really light biters though and I had to wait until nightfall to catch most of them which is very different from usual.
I got tired of ice fishing so I went to Lake Columbia for some open water flathead action. I ended up catching 21lb flathead at night and another mid-size eater channel. That's the earliest in the year I've caught a big flathead.
Fished the Monona Triangles today with some success. Wasn't as many fish as I hoped but there were some at least. Nothing bit on Minnows, it was all on spikes.
I went to fish at Elver Park's Back pond through the ice the last few days and caught a lot of small bluegills but that wasn't the only thing there as I caught a goldfish in the end.
Its been almost 2 weeks since I came back to Madison and the Ice is thick. I went Ice fishing on North Monona Bay and the Bluegills were biting furiously. One hole was just producing one after another and it was glorious.
I drove to Baldwin Lake in Illinois for 2 days and the first day just caught a bunch of dinks. The second day, I got a few big bites but ultimately caught a 5lb channel catfish. The big blue catfish still evades my capture after so many years.
I went under Boone Bridge again to end the year. Only had until dusk to fish and there was a small drizzling rain. I did manage to get four catfish and would have probably caught quite a few more if I had only used worms instead of trying with cut bait.
Back in St. Louis for the Holidays and bagged a couple of fish on the Meramec River including an Asian carp and a Buffalo, but the big gar got away again at the shoreline.
It Iced over earlier this year than last year and I was ready to get on the ice and do some fishing. Over 2 days, I caught 7 bluegill and learned that they all reside where the weed line ends.
I went to the baraboo river first to get some walleye but downtown baraboo was pretty barren so I ended up going to Wisconsin Dells to try and grab a few. Ended up with four and several more bites. They are active, but just just not biting as hard.
