Common Loon scientific name Gavia immer is a striking waterbird known for its black and white breeding plumage, red eyes, and distinctive dagger like bill. It is an excellent swimmer and diver, commonly found on clear lakes and northern waterways, where it feeds on fish and other aquatic animals.
