The Sunda porcupine (Hystrix javanica) also called the Javan porcupine is a species of porcupine (rodent) native to Indonesia.
The Sunda porcupine (Hystrix javanica), also known as the Javan porcupine, strolls leisurely through a tropical garden. It is a rodent (Rodentia) with thick, sharp fur that serves as defensive spines. This animal is generally herbivorous, eating leaves, stems, and bark, and is active at night (nocturnal). This mammal is endemic to Indonesia, found in Java, Madura, Bali, Sumbawa, Flores, and Lombok. When frightened, the porcupine will expose its spines. These spines can be released and stick to approaching predators. This animal is found in Indonesia, although its conservation status is categorized as least concern by the IUCN.
