AYASULUK CASTLE MOSQUE , SELÇUK IZMIR Located on the southern terrace of Ayasuluk Castle, the mosque consists of a square-plan, cubic prayer hall and a minaret in the northwest. Although there is no inscription indicating its construction date, it is estimated to have been built during the years when the Aydınoğulları Principality conquered Ayasuluk. A later addition of a last congregation area was made to the southwest section of the building. The minaret, situated at the exact north corner of the mosque, has a cylindrical base and an octagonal upper section. A triangular band leads from the base to the minaret body. The four rows of hedgehog-shaped cornices adorning the area below the balcony were in a dilapidated state, but were restored in 2009 along with the remaining upper balcony section.
