Best Places to find free stock photos

Even though I run a free stock photo site, I do use other resources a lot. This site is specialized and focuses on detailed photo documentation of specific places within a state or country listed by location and animals and plants by species. But since its impossible for me to travel to everywhere in the world, sometimes I have to use photos from other places. Here are the best places I've found to get photos.

Sangchris Lake State Park

Stopped by Sangchris Lake State Park on the way back to Madison from St. Louis. Its a nice recreation area with some decent trails and many good fishing spots. Its best to stop at sunset for photographs, but I was there in the early afternoon. The lake was still pretty though.

I went on a mission trip to Haiti. I wasn't the designated Camera Man, but I still got some good pictures. Where were working at a church near Pignon with kids that had pretty much nothing. Teaching them computer basics was my job. It was a great experience. These are some scenic pictures near Port-Au-Prince and Pignon.

Devil's Lake Winter

Today was my first(and perhaps last) winter hiking this year. I went to the best place I could think of nearby, Devil's Lake State Park , the only significant uphill hiking terrain in the area. It was much harder than I thought and we had to go off-trail a few times because the steps were way too icy. But it was very pretty.

Taum Sauk Mountain

Continuing with my quest to reach the high point in all fifty states, I came to Taum Sauk Mountain in Missouri. At just 1772 ft, its one of the lower high points in the United States and there is only a short walk from the parking lot to the high point. However, afterwards, there is quite a long hike down to Mina Sauk Falls and another 10 miles or so if you (...)

On my way back from Big Bend, I decided to continue my goal of getting to the highest point in each of the 50 states. I therefore, visited Mount Magazine State Park to check Arkansas off the list. I arrived in late afternoon so the view was pretty good, especially this of the fading sun:

The next few days at Big Bend were all spent hiking the wonderful Chisos Mountains, mostly on the Emory Peak trail and the Lost Mine peak trail. The top of Emory was great:

Big Bend National Park Part I

Finally on the texas trip I arrived at Big Bend National Park, a remote national park on the border of Texas and Mexico that is 4 hours for any major city. No major highway runs close to the park so its about a 90 minute drive to reach the interstate from here. This is beautiful desert wilderness with mountains.

I rented a cabin at Wildhorse Station. No (...)

Natural Bridge Caverns

Went to visit Natural Bridge Caverns just out of San Antonio on my trip. Its the largest open cave system in the state of texas. There were two tours and I went onto both. The cave is bigger than most I've been in and some of the rooms were absolutely huge. Its a pretty neat place to visit with lots of structures like these:

A visit into the Houston area just would not be complete without a Visit to the NASA Johnson station where the control rooms for the US space program are. Inside were many models of spacemen:
