Northern Minnesota Road Trip

02/18/2017

Finally I went on another road trip(first multi-day one since September) to one of my favorite places - Northern Minnesota along the shorelines of Lake superior. I've been up here several times before but only during the summer, never in the depths of winter. This was a first. Luckily, this year has been one of the warmest ever in terms of winter temperatures so it wasn't completely freezing outside. I visited Grand Marais, Cascade River, Temperance River, and Gooseberry Falls. They looked (...)

I journeyed about 3 hours Northeast of Ontario to Algonquin Provincial Park, one of the largest provincial parks in Ontario and the largest one accessible by road. It was cloudy while I was there so I didn't get much of the blue sky but I did get some scenic shots. pond and nature landscape

Over the long weekend, I went north up to Chequamgon National Forest for some nature and photography. It was pretty good. The lake during the day and the stars at night made it worth the while.

I finally got myself to Galena, a quiet scenic town in Northern Illinois, home of president Grant. It is a lovely little place with a great park and river running through it. It has an old down feel. Check out the streets of downtown:

Took a trip to Mississippi Palisades State Park the other day as its one if the few scenic areas in the state of Illinois I've been wanting to see. You get great views of the river from the bluffs.

Horicon Marsh

Horicon Marsh is one of the best wildlife viewing places in Wisconsin. You will need a zoom lens to get good shots(or a really good optimal zoom point and click), to get a close shot. The sunset landscapes are, however, great.

I went to Flambeau River State Forest which is about 4 hours upstate. This is the first trip I made with my new Camera, the Awesome Nikon D750, which allowed me much better photo and for the first time, decent night sky photos. The Milky Way shines brights in the night at Flambeau:

After DC, I headed towards Harper's Ferry and the accompanying Maryland Heights to see the historic town and get a grand view of the Potamic. It was a good view so the view was good. This is Harper's Ferry as viewed from Maryland Heights:
