Helsinki Cathedral dominates the northern edge of Senate Square from an aerial perspective, its white stucco exterior and distinctive green copper dome rising above the neoclassical ensemble. The cathedral was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel in the Empire style, a variant of neoclassical architecture, and was completed in 1852 after more than two decades of construction. Its Greek cross plan features six Corinthian columns on each of the four identical facades, while twelve zinc statues of the Apostles adorn the roofline pediments. The surrounding Senate Square presents a cohesive neoclassical urban composition, with the Government Palace and University of Helsinki main building flanking the open plaza. The scene is captured in bright daylight under clear summer skies, with the Baltic Sea visible beyond the dense historic center and modern harbor infrastructure in the distance.
