Spiny lobster, panulirus argus, hiding in its den under a coral reef in the caribbean sea
Spiny lobster, a crustacean belonging to the family Palinuridae. Unlike true clawed lobsters (family Nephropidae), spiny lobsters possess long, robust antennae for defense and lack large chelae (claws). They are characterized by their bodies covered with prominent spines, which provide protection against predators such as snappers (family Lutjanidae), groupers (subfamily Epinephelinae), and octopuses (order Octopoda).
Panulirus versicolor is a species of spiny lobster, grows up to 40 centimetres
